Tanzania Youth for Health (TYH) is a youth-led, non-governmental organization based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, dedicated to improving health outcomes through advocacy, education, research-informed interventions, and strategic partnerships. Established in 2019 and registered with the Ministry of Health of Tanzania, TYH works to empower communities—particularly young people and other underserved populations—to live healthier, more productive lives.
Our vision is a Tanzania where informed, healthy, and empowered citizens actively contribute to sustainable national and global development. We pursue this vision by addressing priority public health challenges through community-centered, innovative, and sustainable programs.
WHAT WE DO..
TYH designs and implements high-impact health projects aligned with national and global health priorities. Our core areas of work include:

HIV/AIDS Prevention and Support: Promoting HIV testing and counseling, reducing stigma, and expanding access to prevention services, including PrEP, for vulnerable populations.
Mental Health and Psychosocial Well-being: Addressing mental health stigma and improving access to community-based mental health education and support services.
Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR): Enhancing access to accurate information, services, and resources for adolescents, young people, and marginalized groups.
Capacity Building and Community Advocacy: Strengthening community knowledge and leadership to improve public health outcomes and healthcare access.
TYH operates with a lean, transparent, and cost-effective organizational model. Programs are funded through international grants, partnerships, and social enterprise initiatives, ensuring accountability, sustainability, and maximum community impact.
TYH has a strong track record of successfully managing donor-funded projects and delivering measurable results. Our initiatives have reached tens of thousands of beneficiaries across Tanzania through school-based health education, community outreach, and targeted health interventions.
Key projects include reducing infant mortality related to sickle cell disease, improving menstrual hygiene management for adolescent girls, and advancing sexual and reproductive health services for young women facing heightened vulnerabilities. These projects are implemented in collaboration with government institutions, healthcare facilities, community leaders, and international partners.
In addition to project implementation, TYH facilitates medical and health sciences internships, electives, and clinical rotations for students and early-career professionals from different countries. Through partnerships with national, regional, district, and community-level health facilities, TYH supports hands-on learning experiences across Tanzania.
Participants gain exposure to clinical practice, community health programs, public health research, and health systems in low- and middle-income country settings. These placements promote global learning, cultural exchange, and mutual capacity strengthening.
